Janet left us on 6th July 2011, but she will not be forgotten. Although born and brought up on Shetland, she loved Braemar and adopted it as her chosen second home.
She had a deep and secure faith, and to carry out her duties as an Elder and as Church Officer gave her great satisfaction. She was genuinely fond of people, and invariably tried to make strangers feel at home and welcome both in the Church and in the village. Sometimes a stranger would detect her Shetland accent, which delighted her.
Absolutely conscientious, she spent much time either sweeping leaves out of the Church porch in windy weather, or fretting over an elusive leak in the roof which in heavy rain sometimes caused a drip. No detail was too small for her quietly to put right if she could. From April to October, she daily opened the church door for visitors, and saw to it that the Visitors' Book was open and available.
It was always a joy to be in her company with many a laugh and some "wicked giggles". She was a quiet, unassuming lady - a real lady in the true sense of the word; and she did not know how to say "No". She will be badly and sadly missed.
The packed Church at her Funeral Service amply demonstrated the extent to which the Braemar community valued Janet, who, typically, would have been astonished at the large turn-out.
